Better learning environment for children
In parallel to the establishment of the new CMG, Merck in Vietnam launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to improve the prospects of socially disadvantage children. This program is managed by a committee consisting of employees from all parts of the organization. As a long-term pilot project, Merck was sponsoring the construction of a kindergarten in the remote village of Tan Hung, which lies in one of the poorest districts of the Mekong Delta. The kindergarten currently benefits 50 to 70 children by giving them a suitable learning environment and a better start for successful formal schooling. In addition, the CSR initiative grants scholarships to children from socially disadvantaged families to support school or vocational training and provides support to selected orphanages in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding area.
